Horizons 2010 - Updates

The International Center for Marianist Formation (ICMF), in collaboration with the General Administrations of the Society of Mary and the Daughters of Mary Immaculate, reports that planning is well underway for Horizons ’10.   Horizons ‘10 is a program of ongoing formation for members of the Society of Mary and the Daughters of Mary who have made perpetual vows and are under the age of 41.

The overall aim of the programs isTo deepen & broaden the identity of the young adult Marianist religious as a committed, global missionary of Mary.

Below is a list of the participants for Horizons 2010.

There have been three previous Horizons program: 1995, 1998 and 2005. Below you will also see the photos of those groups as well as of some of the activities from the 2005 program.  Brother Tom Giardino of the ICMF will direct the program with an international team whom you can read about below, along with other relevant information.

  • Purposes of the Program

Ø  To foster family spirit on a cross-cultural basis among young Marianists.

Ø  To develop cross-cultural competencies for the future of the SM/FMI and the Church.

Ø  To emphasize and experience the global scope of Marianist life in today’s world.

Ø  To better know oneself and deepen one’s Marianist vocation as a Missionary of Mary.

During the program, along with sessions, e.g. Intercultural Dialogue, Marianist Spirituality, Social Justice, Education & Youth Ministry and Leadership, there will be pilgrimages to Marianist heritage sites, e.g. Périgueux, Trenquelléon, the Madeleine, Pian-Médoc, Agen, Zaragoza.

  • Coordinating Team:
    The following Marianists have generously accepted to be on the Coordinating Team for Horizons 2010. See below the photos from the 23 - 25 July 2008 Coordinating Team meeting in Rome.

    Dave Fleming, SM, is presently in Bangalore, India living and teaching scholastics after ten years as Superior General.  Dave was on the Team for the first two Horizons programs.

    Hugo de Diego, SM, is a dynamic young brother of the Zaragoza Province who works in a Marianist secondary school in Vitoria.  Hugo spent some significant time in India on sabbatical some years back.

    Juliana Mun In-Hye, FMI, is from the Region of Korea where she serves on the Regional Council. She has recently moved to Seoul after serving in a parish in Kyeonggido where she was much appreciated, especially for her commitment to the poor.

    Remy Sandah, SM, from the Region of Togo, who has been in Rome assisting in the General Office of Temporalities, has been appointed as Vice Rector of the International Seminary. He has spent years in formation with scholastics and aspirants.

    Tom Giardino, SM, is the Executive Director of the International Center for Marianist Formation. Tom has directed the Horizons programs since their beginning in 1998.
